GoodSwim Manly - FAQ's

I'm a complete beginner, is that OK?
Yes absolutely. Our Learn to Swim lessons are perfect for you.

Am I too old to learn to swim?
Never! Anyone can learn to swim at any age. We teach children aged 4 years and up and specialise in adult learn to swim lessons.

Where do swimming lessons take place?
Queenscliff ocean pool is the perfect setting for learning to swim, refining stroke technique and preparing for ocean swimming.
Introduction to ocean swimming lessons take place at Manly Beach or Shelly Beach, depending on conditions and participant ability.
Additionally, our Sunday morning indoor pool sessions at Brookvale offer a warm, comfortable environment for beginners learning to swim, those seeking stroke correction or kids and adults looking to build swim fitness over winter.


What do I need to bring to a swimming lesson?
Swimmers, goggles, towel, swim cap (optional), drinking water, wetsuit (optional).

Do I need a wetsuit to swim?
In summer months you will be fine in swimmers but the ocean and ocean swimming pools it can get cold in those winter months. A wetsuit is advised for warmth and comfort in winter but it is your personal choice.

Is it dangerous to swim in the ocean?
Ocean swimming has its dangers as do most activities and sports. Conditions are assessed on the day before we start any Intro to ocean swimming lesson.

How many lessons will I need?
This question really depends on your starting level, your goal and your ability. This can be assessed more accurately once lessons have started.

What if it's raining?
We will continue with lessons in the rain. We only cancel and reschedule lessons due to large swell in the ocean or lightning storms. Open ocean swim conditions will be assessed on the day but safety is always a priority.

Can I cancel?
  • All appointments for swim lessons will be scheduled directly between GoodSwim and the client.
  • Subsequently, if a client has to cancel or reschedule any previously scheduled appointments, the client must contact GoodSwim directly at least 12 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment.
  • If a client does not cancel or reschedule an appointment at least 12 hours in advance, GoodSwim reserves the right to charge a cancellation fee equivalent to a full swim lesson fee that would normally be charged.
  • If a client fails to appear for a scheduled appointment, GoodSwim reserves the right to charge a no show fee equivalent to the swim lesson fee that would have been charged for the swim session.
  • All cancellations must be made 12 hours in advance by phone or email.

Are you qualified AustSwim teacher?
Yes I am a qualified AustSwim Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety and Teacher Towards Competitive Strokes.

Do you teach through the school holidays?
Yes we run swimming lessons all year.

How can I pay?
Payment is made via a bank transfer upon booking confirmation or payment in cash on the day.

Do I need to be in water with my child?
No you do not need to be in the water with your child but you do need to attend the lesson if they are under 16 years old and also complete the disclaimer form before the lesson starts.

Are you insured?
GoodSwim is insured for Public and Product Liability Insurance.
